CIOS

The Chair in Indian Ocean Studies (CIOS) of IORA has been tasked with playing a leadership and catalytic role in fostering research activities and studies in fields of interest related to the Indian Ocean region.

The role involves promoting and undertaking studies on regional integration groupings, the operation of the World Trade System including WTO, trade policies of developed and developing countries, South-South cooperation, and other relevant fields. This is to be done with a view to developing realistic programmes of cooperation among Member States.

The Chair is also tasked with organising workshops and short-term training programmes on topics of regional and international significance for the benefit of top management in the public and private sectors.

    Prof V.N Attri is the Chair in Indian Ocean Studies (CIOS) at the IORA Secretariat. Former Professor, Chairman and Senior Fellow, Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR), Ministry of Human Resource & Development (MHRD), New Delhi working in the Department of Economics, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.

    Prof V.N Attri contributed to more than 65 research papers in various National and International Journals and participated in International Conferences abroad. He also published two policy briefs in the United Nations Global Sustainable Development Report during 2016 and 2017. Being a Member of the FICCI’s Task Force on the Blue Economy 2016-2017, Prof V.N delivered various keynote addresses on this priority of focus. He has also been actively involved presenting research findings in Core Group Meetings on the Blue Economy, Trade and Investment, Women’s’ Economic Empowerment and Innovation during 2017. He produced more than 15 PHD scholars and 45 M.Phil.

    Prof V.N Attri is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Indian Ocean Rim Studies (JIORS) in collaboration with IORA. Engaged in research of the Blue Economy, International Trade and Financial Liberalisation, Maritime Safety and Security; Women’s Empowerment and Global Development Issues, Prof V.N Attri is committed to share and further knowledge in these fields of interest.
